A road accident on the Thrissur- Kuttippuram State Highway at Kechery claimed the life of one person and left another critically injured on Friday amid heavy rain.The dead has been identified as Nidhin, 35, a native of Aanakkallu. The accident occurred when a lorry returning to Thrissur after unloading poultry in Kunnamkulam collided head-on with a pickup van that was transporting firewood from Thrissur towards Kunnamkulam.According to reports, both vehicles rammed each other in the heavy rain. The impact of the collision was severe, leaving both vehicles wrecked. Nidhin died on the spot, while another sustained critical injuries and was rushed to hospital. Seven others injured in the accident are also undergoing treatment.In a separate accident, 15 people were injured after two private buses collided at Vettukad Asharippadi, near Choondal. The buses involved were operating on the Thrissur–Kunnamkulam route. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, and their condition is reported to be stable. Published - June 12, 2026 08:25 pm IST
Two persons, including the driver of a sleeper bus, were killed and 35 passengers injured when their vehicle rammed into a rice-laden truck on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Uttar Pradesh, police said on Friday (May 29, 2026).Inspector Pradeep Kumar Pandey of Karhal police station said the sleeper bus was carrying around 70 passengers and was on its way to Delhi from Gonda when the incident occurred."Prima facie, the driver appears to have dozed off briefly, following which the bus crashed into the truck from behind," Mr. Pandey told PTI.The impact severely damaged the front portion of the bus, the police said.Circle Officer Ajay Singh said police teams rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation to evacuate trapped passengers from the damaged vehicle."The driver got trapped between the steering wheel and the seat and was pulled out with the help of a Hydra machine," Singh said.All injured passengers were taken to Saifai Medical College for treatment, where bus driver Ram Jeevan (43), a resident of Basti district, and passenger Ram Naresh (35) of Gonda were declared dead by doctors, he added.The injured were provided treatment and later discharged, the officer said. The State government will provide an assistance of ₹4 lakh to the kin of each of the deceased, and the injured will receive free treatment, he said in a post on X.Three persons were killed in the fire at the firecracker unit located in Tonk Kalan area, and around 15 injured persons were sent to hospitals in Indore and Dewas, Collector Rituraj Singh told reporters after inspecting the site.Videos of the aftermath surfaced on social media, showing thick white smoke billowing from the factory along the Agra–Mumbai national highway.The fire has been brought under control, Mr. Singh said. The administration has taken possession of explosives stored at another location in the unit, he said.Mr. Singh said work to manufacture small firecrackers had begun at the factory only 15 days ago, and a licence had been issued for the unit in the name of Anil Malviya.A detailed investigation into the incident is underway, he added.CM Yadav said: “I have directed Deputy Chief Minister and Dewas district guardian minister Jagdish Devda, the home secretary and senior officials to visit the spot. An inquiry has also been ordered into the incident.”Local residents said there was a massive explosion at the factory, and the victims’ body parts were found scattered far away from the site. Four passengers were charred to death and 10 others suffered burn injuries when a bus caught fire after crashing into a tanker in Gujarat's Surendranagar district in the wee hours of Thursday (May 14, 2026), officials said.The incident occurred at around 1.30 a.m. near Sangani village on the Chotila-Rajkot National Highway, Deputy Superintendent of Police S.S. Bhadoriya said.The private luxury bus was going towards Rajkot from Ahmedabad when it collided with an asphalt-laden tanker moving ahead of it. After the collision near Chotila, the bus caught fire.There were around 40 passengers in the bus, and several of them were rescued, Mr. Bhadoriya said."Four passengers were burnt alive in the collision between the private bus and the tanker filled with asphalt," Deputy Collector H.T. Makwana said.Ten persons suffered injuries in the incident, according to the police.The injured persons were referred to Rajkot civil hospital, and the bodies were shifted to Chotila referral hospital for postmortem, Mr. Makwana said.After being alerted, a firefighting team rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control.
