ED provisionally attaches ₹100 crore assets in Jaypee Infratech-Jaiprakash Associates case

The ED’s probe against the Jaypee Group is based on multiple cases registered by the Economic Offences Wings of the Delhi Police and the Uttar Pradesh Police, alleging that homebuyers in the Jaypee Wishtown and Jaypee Greens projects had been cheated.About ₹32,825 crore was collected by JIL and JAL from homebuyers, in accordance with the claims admitted by National Company Law Tribunal, of which substantial amounts had been diverted and siphoned off to related entities, including JC World Hospitality, the ED said. The proceeds were also parked in Investors Clinic Infratech in the form of land, it is alleged.The agency has alleged that Manoj Gaur, the then managing director of JIL and JAL, played a central role in the planning and execution of the diversion of funds through a complex web of transactions. Mr. Gaur was arrested on November 13, 2025, and is currently in judicial custody.In January, the ED had provisionally attached assets valued at about ₹400 crore, and filed a prosecution complaint against Mr. Gaur. A burglary was reported at the residence of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) senior leader Kethi Reddy Suresh Reddy in Sanath Nagar, Hyderabad, with thieves allegedly making away with cash and gold jewellery worth around ₹1.5 crore.Police said that the theft occurred on Saturday (June 6, 2026) at Mr. Reddy’s residence in Z Colony when he and his family members were away.According to preliminary information, unidentified persons allegedly broke into an iron safe inside the house and escaped with the valuables. The burglary came to light on the morning of Sunday (June 7, 2026) when family members returned home and found the house ransacked. They subsequently alerted the police.Sanath Nagar Police registered a case and launched an investigation. Clues teams and a dog squad were pressed into service to examine the scene and collect forensic evidence.The police have also deployed special teams to analyse CCTV footage from the surrounding area to trace the movements of the suspects and determine how they gained access to the property.Investigators suspect the burglars may have carried out the theft after carefully studying the layout of the residence and choosing a time when the occupants were away. The police are also examining whether the offenders had prior knowledge of the house and the valuables stored inside. Efforts were underway to identify and apprehend the accused. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted simultaneous search and seizure operations at two jewellery establishments in Bengaluru on Wednesday and seized gold ornaments weighing 1,618.17 gms, valued at approximately ₹2.77 crore, for alleged violations of hallmarking regulations.The raids were carried out by the BIS Bengaluru Branch Office at outlets of Panchkesari Badera Jewellers in Jayanagar and Panchkesari Badera Jewellers in Chickpet, as part of an enforcement drive against misuse of BIS standards and hallmarking norms.During the inspection, the officials allegedly found gold ornaments without mandatory Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID) markings, which is a violation under the BIS Act, 2016.The officials said legal proceedings are being initiated against the establishments concerned under the provisions of the BIS Act, 2016.The bureau stated that it regularly conducts such enforcement operations based on credible inputs regarding misuse of BIS Standard Marks and hallmarking violations to safeguard consumer interests and curb deceptive trade practices.Consumers have been advised to verify the authenticity of hallmarked gold jewellery using the BIS Care App. Published - May 15, 2026 11:49 pm IST
