The Cockroach Janta Party has surpassed the Indian National Congress on Instagram in just four days. Founded by Abhijeet Dipke, CJP is a satirical movement responding to the CJI's remarks about India's unemployed youth. CJP reaches new milestone: After beating BJP, Cockroach Janta Party surpasses Congress’ 13.3 million(CJP)The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has reached a new milestone. It has surpassed the Indian National Congress on Instagram. Before this, Rahul Gandhi’s party was the biggest Indian political party on Instagram, with 13.3 million.CJP now has 15 million followers on the platform. The most astounding fact is that the newest ‘political party’ has achieved the feat in just four days. Its first Instagram post was published on 17 May.The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), India's ruling party, has 8.8 million followers. Earlier today, CJP crossed that number. Now, it is all set to double that number. The CJP is, however, not a registered political party in India. It is a viral satirical political movement founded by Abhijeet Dipke. It was created as a sarcastic response to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant's remarks. The CJI likened unemployed youth to "cockroaches" and "parasites of society".CJP describes itself as the "voice for the lazy and unemployed". Its headquarters is listed as "wherever the wifi works".The manifesto blends sharp political satire with real demands. Check out its key promises in the manifesto:If the CJP comes to power, no Chief Justice shall be granted a Rajya Sabha seat as a post-retirement reward. If any legit vote is deleted, whether in a CJP or opposition-ruled state, the CEC shall be arrested under UAPA, as taking away voting rights of citizens is no less than terrorism.Women shall receive 50% reservation, not 33%, without increasing the strength of Parliament. Additionally, 50% of all Cabinet positions shall be reserved for women. All media houses owned by Ambani and Adani shall have their licences cancelled to make way for truly independent media. Bank accounts of Godi media anchors shall be investigated.Any MLA or MP who defects from one party to another shall be barred from contesting elections — and from holding any public office — for a period of 20 years.CJP’s Twitter Account BannedIn one of its social media posts, CJP has claimed that its Twitter (now X) account has been banned in India. The update has sparked strong reactions from its followers.“You should consider filing a Writ Petition before the High Court. If the suspension has been imposed arbitrarily, it can just as easily be set aside,” wrote an advocate.“Which country's democracy allows a foreign-based account to interfere in their internal politics directly? Come with a factual answer,” posted another user.Another user asked, “Why do you all criticise the BJP? I follow this page because we think this is for Gen Z voice. But, this is going in a different direction.”“Open an extra account. We will follow again,” came from another.About the AuthorSounak MukhopadhyaySounak Mukhopadhyay covers trending news, sports and entertainment for LiveMint. A social media post comparing Rasgulla to an idli dipped in sugar syrup has gone viral. It triggered a sharp and eloquent response from Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. The exchange has been widely shared and celebrated online. It began when a social media user, Sayantika, posted about Misti Doi and Nolen Gurer Rosogolla on 15 May. She wondered how to explain the taste of these sweets to someone who wasn't Bengali.A user named @crazyxedi replied by quoting her post. The user called Rasgulla "nothing but an idli dipped in sugar syrup." The Mumbai Indians fan also called it the "most overrated dessert". The post quickly gathered over 2,50,000 views.Another user, Kanika, spotted the comment and issued a lighthearted warning. She said, if Shashi Tharoor found out about the statement, he should "get ready for an eloquent linguistic assassination". The warning proved accurate.Tharoor responded the following day. He called the comparison not just a culinary error but a "profound cosmological misunderstanding".The Kerala MP explained the difference. Rasgulla is made from chhena, a delicate milk curd. Idlis are made from a fermented batter of parboiled rice and black gram. Their compositions belong to entirely different kingdoms. One is an airy, spongy structure designed to absorb light sugar syrup. The other is a dense, steamed matrix of complex carbohydrates and proteins. He said they share nothing in common in taste, texture, structure or purpose.Tharoor then turned his attention to the Idli itself. According to him, dismissing it as a blank canvas for sugar syrup was deeply unfair. He called the Idli "a masterclass in biotechnology".Making a perfect Idli, according to Tharoor, requires balancing wild fermentation microflora over a cold night. The result is a steamed cloud that represents a triumph of gut health and nutritional balance. It is a “savoury monolith of South Indian culinary genius, perfectly engineered to absorb the sharp tang of a well-spiced sambar or the fiery depth of a molaga-podi (gunpowder) paste infused with cold-pressed sesame oil or nutritious melted ghee”, Shashi Tharoor wrote on X.He added that suggesting an Idli would "consent to being drowned in sugar syrup" fundamentally misunderstood its dignity. He concluded with a pointed but polite instruction. According to the politician, if someone finds Rasgullas overrated, they should argue that on its own merits. But, the Idli, he insisted, should be left out of dessert-table arguments entirely."Leave the noble, perfectly fermented, steamed majesty of the Idli out of your dessert-table polemics, ma'am!" he wrote.Social Media Reaction“The Sun turned to grass. Grass turned to milk. Milk turned into rasgulla. The Sun also turned to paddy and urad. Paddy and urad turned into idlis. And consciousness, having become both, now sits in argument — debating which is superior,” wrote a social media user.“How about holding an Idli fest? We would love to taste your idlis! I watched a video where you claimed to make idlis for the entire week and store them in the freezer (during your days in the U.S!” posted another user. One user quipped, “I think ChatGPT takes notes from you, sir.”“As always, Mr Tharoor never fails to disappoint. My daily dose of English is not complete. Word of the day - Polemics,” came from another.About the AuthorSounak MukhopadhyaySounak Mukhopadhyay covers trending news, sports and entertainment for LiveMint. Elon Musk has been called out for being a misogynist for his recent remark about Instagram, calling it a platform for girls. Responding to a viral thread about the posting behaviour of men and women online, the billionaire wrote, “Lmao. Instagram is for girls.”The original post claimed that social media habits of an individual reflect different “phases” of an individual's life. It joked about how posting thirst traps, constantly uploading stories, and sharing pictures of cooked food each represented a different phase. In a separate comment, the Tesla CEO explained his point, saying, “Sometimes grown men send me their Instagram profiles and I’m like, are you transitioning or what?”Here's how netizens reacted:Netizens criticised this remark as misogynistic, sparking mixed reactions online.“How are you the richest man in the world when you say stuff like this?????” a social media user said.“Elon saying ‘Instagram is for girls’ is exactly the kind of throwaway internet line that becomes a geopolitical side show the moment it comes from one of the world’s most influential tech figures,” said another user.A user added, “Instagram has a near-even split between men and women, though!”Another user jokingly asked Grok, X's AI, to “explain to Elon that this is a man’s world, but it’s nothing without women.”Some users tried to joke, highlighting the cultural differences between X and Instagram.“Absolutely….X is where the high octane people hang out! The ones who want speed, clarity, truth, and zero wasted energy. It’s built for thrill seekers who don’t have the patience for slow vibes! Instagram? That’s the curated aesthetic playground…everything is perfect. Totally different sport!” a user said.Another user said, “Instagram is for people who need 37 filters to say ‘I’m outside’. X is for people who can start a war, a company, a conspiracy, and a group chat with one typo.”"Yeah, unless of course you owned it, then it would be for ‘super duper Alpha manly men'....right Elon?" another comment read.Musk vs InstagramElon Musk has consistently positioned his social media network, X, as a serious, free-speech-driven alternative to the platforms owned by Meta, amid his ongoing rivalry with its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg. However, the billionaire's ideological battles have increasingly blurred the lines between his public platform and his private life. The rift is most notable with his estranged daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson. In 2022, Wilson legally changed her name and gender, moving to sever all ties with the Tesla CEO. In her court filings, she explicitly stated her desire to distance herself, declaring she no longer wished to be related to her biological father "in any way, shape or form."The estrangement has become a focal point in Musk's broader cultural crusade. He has repeatedly blamed what he terms "woke culture" for his daughter's transition and their fractured relationship.Pointing to this deeply personal rift as a primary motivator for his current political leanings, Musk controversially said, “I vowed to destroy the woke mind virus after that. And we're making some progress.”About the AuthorArshdeep KaurArshdeep Kaur is a Senior Content Producer at Mint, where she reports and edits across national and international politics, business and culture‑adjacent trending stories for digital audience.
