‘Puchchalapalli Sundarayya was a selfless visionary’
Speaking at a programme at Doddi Komaraiah Bhavan, the Nalgonda district office on Tuesday, to mark Sundarayya’s 41st
death anniversary, he recalled Sundarayya’s immense contribution to the Communist movement and the Telangana Armed Struggle. He dedicated his life to the welfare of the poor and oppressed and fought for land, livelihood, and social justice.Several leaders and speakers remembered Sundarayya as ‘Comrade SP’, his simple lifestyle and commitment to public service. Born into a wealthy feudal family, he reportedly distributed his ancestral land among the poor and lived modestly throughout his life. Leaders noted that he travelled by bicycle even while serving in the Parliament and the Assembly, and consistently raised people’s issues in legislative forums.Sundarayya was elected to Rajya Sabha in 1952, became a member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly between 1955 and 1967 and between 1978 and 1983.
