Police on Friday (May 29, 2026) arrested two persons for attacking an excise team that took three people into custody during a raid in Bakhtiyarpur area for allegedly consuming liquor in the dry state, an officer said.Also read | Attack on excise constable an assault on State authority, says Jupally Krishna RaoA team from the Excise Police Station raided Ranisarai region in Bakhtiyarpur on Thursday (May 28, 2026) evening and took three suspected individuals into custody, he added."The detained individuals created a commotion, after which other local residents gathered nearby and attacked the Excise team with bricks and stones. An SUV of the Excise team was damaged in the attack, and three personnel were injured. Bakhtiyarpur police station officials arrested two individuals in this regard," Barh SDPO-2 Ayush Shrivastava told reporters in Patna.The arrested individuals are identified as Ramchandra Paswan, alias Ramanand Paswan, and Kanhaiya Kumar, both residents of Barki Mahmoodpur.Further action is being taken, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest all named and unidentified accused individuals, Mr. Shrivastava said."According to information received, they have previously been caught consuming and selling alcohol. Their criminal history is currently being investigated," he added.The excise personnel injured during the raid, including the driver Kanhaiya Kumar, constable Aditya Raj, and an individual named Mantu Kumar, are currently undergoing treatment at a Public Health Centre in Bakhtiyarpur. Sri Sathya Sai district police conducted a raid in Madakasira town and arrested four people allegedly involved in organising cricket betting. Police seized ₹7.2 lakh in cash and two mobile phones during an operation near Junior College Grounds on Wednesday.Superintendent of Police (SP) S. Satish Kumar told the media here on Thursday that the raid was carried out by Madakasira Urban and Rural police, supervised by Deputy SP (Penukonda) Narasingappa, as part of a district-wide drive against gambling and betting activities.The accused were identified as R. Satish Kumar (49), N. Devaraju (44), Jabbal Irfan (40) and M. Sudheer Reddy (40). A case has been registered under Section 9(1) of the A.P. The police say that wearing helmets is mandatory for both riders and pillion riders under traffic safety regulations.

The Bengaluru Traffic Police on Monday conducted a special enforcement drive against helmet rule violations across the city and booked more than 4,300 cases within three hours on Tuesday.The special drive was carried out on Tuesday between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., targeting two-wheeler riders and pillion riders travelling without helmets.According to the police, a total of 4,351 cases were registered during the operation. Of these, 2,920 cases were booked against riders travelling without helmets, while 1,430 cases were registered against pillion riders not wearing helmets.The police said that wearing helmets is mandatory for both riders and pillion riders under traffic safety regulations. The department stated that such enforcement drives would continue regularly to prevent serious injuries and fatalities in road accidents. Published - May 26, 2026 06:27 pm IST
