Police arrest two for attacking an Excise team in Patna's Bakhtiyarpur

Police on Friday (May 29, 2026) arrested two persons for attacking an excise team that took three people into custody during a raid in Bakhtiyarpur area for allegedly consuming liquor in the dry state, an officer said.Also read | Attack on excise constable an assault on State authority, says Jupally Krishna RaoA team from the Excise Police Station raided Ranisarai region in Bakhtiyarpur on Thursday (May 28, 2026) evening and took three suspected individuals into custody, he added."The detained individuals created a commotion, after which other local residents gathered nearby and attacked the Excise team with bricks and stones. An SUV of the Excise team was damaged in the attack, and three personnel were injured. Bakhtiyarpur police station officials arrested two individuals in this regard," Barh SDPO-2 Ayush Shrivastava told reporters in Patna.The arrested individuals are identified as Ramchandra Paswan, alias Ramanand Paswan, and Kanhaiya Kumar, both residents of Barki Mahmoodpur.Further action is being taken, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest all named and unidentified accused individuals, Mr. Shrivastava said."According to information received, they have previously been caught consuming and selling alcohol. Their criminal history is currently being investigated," he added.The excise personnel injured during the raid, including the driver Kanhaiya Kumar, constable Aditya Raj, and an individual named Mantu Kumar, are currently undergoing treatment at a Public Health Centre in Bakhtiyarpur.
