Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi on Saturday launched the “Jana Vishwas – Safer 3-Wheeler Rides” initiative in Chittoor district, aimed at making autorickshaw travel safer and more accountable for thousands of daily commuters.Launching the programme at Nagari along with Nagari MLA Gali Bhanu Prakash and Additional SP Tarun Pahwa, Mr. Dudi said the initiative would create a robust safety network by bringing every autorickshaw under a unique police identification system. As part of the programme, specially designed stickers carrying a Unique Police Identification Number and a QR code are being affixed to autorickshaws. The SP said the QR code would provide instant access to verified details of the vehicle, driver and owner, enabling authorities to respond swiftly in emergencies, investigate complaints more effectively and strengthen crime-prevention efforts.“It will be particularly beneficial for women, students, senior citizens and other vulnerable commuters,” he said.Interacting with auto drivers and commuters, Mr. Dudi said public safety remained the foremost responsibility of the police and stressed the need to leverage technology to strengthen trust between citizens and law-enforcement agencies. He urged auto drivers to become partners in public safety by following traffic rules, maintaining professional conduct and prioritising passenger welfare. The SP also appealed to the public to support the district’s anti-drug campaign, warning that narcotics posed a serious threat to youth and society. He urged citizens to share information on drug-related activities with the authorities to facilitate strict action against offenders. On the occasion, students presented an anti-drug awareness skit, while the SP distributed uniforms to auto drivers.
