It alleged that the members had tarnished the image through public statements.Actor Maala Parvathi said on Thursday (June 18, 2026) that she will resist any attempt to initiate action against Ms. Hassan, who had lodged complaints against fellow actors Mr. Tom and Ms. Lakshmipriya over alleged communal remarks and derogatory comments against her. She alleged that there was a concerted campaign to portray Ms. Hassan in a bad light. The executive committee lacked any powers to expel a member as such decisions can be taken only by the general body according to the association by-laws, she said.Asked whether she has hopes of getting justice at the general body meeting, Ms. Hassan said that she will look forward to it. “Let us see [what happens at the meeting]”, she said. The actor, who resigned from the post of joint secretary earlier, said that she is yet to receive a reply on the clarification sought on the notice sent to her by the Secretary of the association. In her reply to the show cause notice, she had asked that the specific violations of the by-law alleged against her be clearly spelt out.She pointed out that the incidents involving Ms. Lakshmipriya, and Mr. Tom were purely personal matters and bore no connection to the association, particularly since the association had not taken any action despite being aware of complaints against both of them. The association leadership is unlikely to initiate any disciplinary action against the four members before the general body meeting, according to people close to the development. They stated that it was up to the general body to take a call on such issues. Published - June 18, 2026 01:34 pm IST
AITC MP Saugata Roy. Photo: Sansad TV/ANI Video Grab Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy on Tuesday threatened to move a privilege motion against Barasat MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar — who heads the dissident TMC faction that merged with the Nationalist Citizen Party of India this week — for breaking the Parliamentary norm of not divulging the proceedings of a Parliamentary standing committee. At the conclusion of the Standing Committee on Home Affairs that was deliberating on crimes against children, Ms. Dastidar spoke to the media criticising her former party’s 15-year government in the State for its failure to check child trafficking and other crimes against children.“In West Bengal, child marriage is very prevalent, and the previous government did not take adequate steps to stop it. Child trafficking is also very high there, with young girls being sent outside the country,” she said. She added that she had asked officials of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs what action would be taken on the issue and also what punishment would be fixed for those involved in either child abuse or child marriage.Mr. Roy, who has been a Parliamentarian since 1977, accused Ms. Dastidar of being oblivious about Parliamentary rules.“Surprised that a four-time MP who has now claimed to have merged with a cock and bull party is unaware of parliamentary procedures. Divulging details of a Parliamentary Standing Committee meeting is grounds for a privilege motion against the member,” Mr. Roy said. Published - June 16, 2026 11:26 pm IST
