Couple found dead on railway tracks near Ghatkesar station



A couple was found dead on the railway tracks near Ghatkesar railway station in Medchal district on Thursday night. The Government Railway Police (GRP) have launched an investigation into the incident.The deceased were identified as Ravikumar, 42, a rice trader and Shirisha, 33, residents of Papayyapeta village in Chennaraopet mandal of Warangal district. They were survived by their two sons, both minors.Police said that the couple jumped before a moving train near the railway station late on Thursday night. Preliminary probe revealed that Ravikumar had invested a substantial amount of money in a business venture with a partner. Police suspect that a financial dispute between the two, coupled with mounting financial difficulties faced by the family after the investment, may have led the couple to the drastic step.On receiving information from local residents, GRP personnel rushed to the spot, recovered the bodies and shifted them to a government hospital for post-mortem examination.A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.(Roshini suicide prevention helplines: 8142020033/44 and 040 66202000/2001) Published - July 03, 2026 07:27 pm IST

The Ati Vishisht Seva Medal is one of India’s highest peacetime military decorations and is awarded for distinguished service of an exceptional order.A native of Nimmakuru in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district, Vice Admiral Srinivas assumed charge as Director General, Naval Projects, Visakhapatnam, on November 1, 2025 after serving as the Admiral Superintendent of the Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam.Commissioned into the Indian Navy in 1990, he is an alumnus of Sainik School, Korukonda, and the National Defence Academy. During a career spanning more than 35 years, he has held several operational, technical and strategic appointments.His sea service includes appointments on board the erstwhile aircraft carrier INS Viraat. He also served as Warship Production Superintendent at Severodvinsk in Russia, where he supervised the repair and re-equipping of INS Vikramaditya. Before taking charge as Admiral Superintendent of the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam, he served as Commanding Officer of INS Shivaji and later as Assistant Chief of Materiel (Dockyards and Refit).Vice Admiral Srinivas is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, the erstwhile Naval War College at Karanja and the National Defence College in New Delhi.According to the Indian Navy, the award recognises his contributions to strengthening the Navy’s operational capabilities and enhancing the country’s defence preparedness through his leadership, technical expertise and strategic vision. Srinivas, who is an officer of the Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) of 1989 batch, has assumed charge as Additional General Manager (AGM), South Western Railway, a release said.Prior to this appointment, Mr. Srinivas served as Chief Administrative Officer (Construction) in Bhubaneswar.Mr. Srinivas began his career as Assistant Engineer in South Central Railway and then served in various key assignments across South Central Railway, South Western Railway and Southern Railway.Subsequently, he served as Chief Engineer at Headquarters, South Central Railway, Divisional Railway Manager, Salem Division, in Southern Railway and Chief Engineer (Special Duties) and Chief Planning and Design Engineer (CPDE) at South Central Railway.Mr. Srinivas has successfully executed several major infrastructure projects, including commissioning of approximately 500 km of railway lines and redevelopment of multiple stations, the release said.
