Hyderabad Police book two for rooftop stunts on illegally modified car

A Circle Inspector attached to the State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB) was taken into police custody on Friday after he allegedly attempted to forcefully free a few detainees held at the Nedumangad police station. The Home department has ordered an inquiry against the officer, who has been identified as Yahiya. According to official sources, four people were apprehended by the Nedumangad police in Chullimanoor late on Thursday in connection with a dispute over a football match. The group, found to be carrying iron rods, were subsequently lodged in the lock-up at the police station.Around noon on Friday, Mr. Yahiya arrived at the police station and demanded the release of two of the detainees, claiming they were his relatives. However, the personnel on duty refused to release them after maintaining that the investigation into the alleged incident was still underway.The officer then purportedly entered the station, proceeded towards the lock-up area and attempted to release the detainees. He also created a commotion inside the station when he was prevented by the other officers. He was soon taken into custody. Imchen said a team was conducting an intensive investigation into the blast—suspected to have been caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) at Khopanullah under Chümoukedima ‘A’ village—to identify and catch all those involved in the “heinous terrorist act”.The notice said the reward would be given for information leading to the identification and arrest of the perpetrators or their associates, as well as those involved in planning, financing, harbouring, transporting or otherwise facilitating the offence.The police also appealed for information to help recover explosives, explosive components, weapons, communication devices, vehicles, or any other incriminating material linked to the case, apart from identifying hideouts, safe houses, or logistical support networks used by the offenders.A day after the incident, the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) said it would “make every effort through all available and appropriate means” to identify those behind the IED blast that targeted an Assam Rifles convoy.The site of the blast is not far from Camp Hebron, the NSCN’s military and administrative headquarters.The suspected IED blast killed Havildar Mohammed Iqbal, who was posted with the Assam Rifles Training Centre and School at Sukhovi in Chümoukedima district. Continuing its crackdown on habitual offenders and organised crime, the Bengaluru City Police have detained notorious rowdy sheeter Srinivas Gowda alias ‘Havali Seena’ (26) of the Hanumanthanagar Police Station limits under the Goonda Act and lodged him in Ballari Central Prison.According to police, Srinivas Gowda is a habitual offender involved in multiple criminal activities and was known for disturbing public peace and tranquillity. The detention was executed by the Organised Crime Squad (East) of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) on Wednesday, as part of preventive measures to maintain law and order in the city.Police said that as part of their ongoing drive against rowdy elements, 110 rowdy sheeters have been externed from Bengaluru city limits so far in 2026. The Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) has alleged lapses by the Falaknuma and Mehdipatnam Police in the handling of a 14-year-old girl’s kidnapping and sought a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the case.In a representation to Telangana Director General of Police C.V. Anand, MBT spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan alleged that the girl was kidnapped on June 1 and sexually exploited by multiple persons at different locations for over 40 days before she was rescued by the Rajendranagar Task Force on July 7.The girl was reported missing on June 3 and the Falaknuma Police registered a case under FIR No. 308 of 2026. The MBT alleged that the police had been informed about the family’s suspicion against a man named Junaid nearly 15 days before the girl’s rescue. Junaid and another person, identified as Tillu, were brought to the police station but were allegedly questioned casually and later escaped, the party claimed.The MBT has demanded that the case be transferred to an SIT headed by a Detective Department officer and sought action against officials allegedly responsible for lapses in the investigation. The family members of the man who died in police custody addressing the media in the presence of former Minister and YSRCP district president Kakani Govardhan Reddy at Gudur Government Hospital on Wednesday. | The deceased has been identified as Yedukondalu, a native of Cherukumudi village in Manubolu mandal of the district. His family members and relatives alleged that he died due to ‘third-degree torture’ for three days while in custody at Manubolu police station.Former Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) district president Kakani Govardhan Reddy and MLC Meriga Muralidhar visited Gudur Government Hospital to inspect Yedukondalu’s body. They consoled the family members, offered them moral support, and assured them of all possible assistance.Addressing the media at the hospital, Mr. Kakani claimed, “Since N. Chandrababu Naidu became the Chief Minister, there has been no protection for people’s lives. To satisfy their vendetta, the leaders of the alliance government are victimising Dalits, tribals, weaker sections, and marginalised communities, as well as YSRCP leaders, activists and sympathisers.”“After the police beat him up for three days, they finally released him on July 12, when his family members fell at the feet of Sub-Inspector (SI) Haneef and wept. He was asked to report to the station by July 13 (Monday). Unable to bear the pain, he could not make it to the station. On July 14 (Tuesday), the police went to his village in a private car and dragged him to the station,” the former Minister claimed.“Yedukondalu lost consciousness and he was unable to step out of the car at the station. Instead of taking him to a hospital, the police drove him around outside from 3.30 p.m. to 6 p.m.. When he was brought to Gudur Government Hospital, the doctors confirmed that he was brought in dead. When we went to see his body, we observed severe injuries on his neck and back,” the YSRCP leader alleged.“If a person dies within the jurisdiction of a police station, it must be treated unequivocally as a custodial death, he said.Police respondsMeanwhile responding to the custodial death allegations, District Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ajitha Vejendla said, “All reports circulating about the case at Manubolu police station are false. Riyaz, Yedukondalu, and Prasad were identified as perpetrators in a chain-snatching incident. Upon serving Section 41 notice, they were questioned in accordance with the law.”“The police come to know that Yedukondalu had also stolen 25 agricultural motors. After receiving information that he was in an unconscious state at the police station, the officials shifted him to the government hospital to save him. The Telangana Medical and Health Services Recruitment Board (MHSRB) released the provisional merit list for the 500 Civil Assistant Surgeon (Specialist) posts in General Medicine, General Surgery, Radiology and Orthopaedics departments.The certificate verification for shortlisted candidates will be held at the Indian Institute of Health and Family Welfare (IIFHW), Vengal Rao Nagar in Hyderabad from July 17 to 20. July 21 has been designated as a reserve day for candidates who need to submit pending documents or were unable to attend on their scheduled date.According to a web notice issued on Wednesday (July 15), the Board had earlier published the details of applicants on February 19, inviting objections. After examining the objections received, the provisional merit lists for the four specialties have now been finalised. Merit lists for the remaining specialties will be released later.The ongoing recruitment is part of the 1,623 Civil Assistant Surgeon (Specialist) posts notified in August 2025. Earlier, on April 7, the Health Minister handed over appointment letters to 692 specialist doctors. Both recruitment drives will be carried out through direct recruitment by the Telangana State Police Recruitment Board (TPRB).5,000 vacancies in ten categoriesThe first order, G.O.Ms.No.78, issued by the Finance Department on June 27, 2026, sanctioned 5,000 vacancies in ten categories. The order followed a review by the Home Department of different proposals in light of departmental needs, staffing requirements, and financial implications.The annexure of order gives the breakdown of the posts with the largest being that 3,697 Police Constable (Civil) posts, followed by 1,052 Police Constable (AR) posts. Other categories include 148 Sub-Inspector of Police (Civil) posts, 14 Sub-Inspector of Police (AR), 12 Reserve Sub-Inspector of Police (TGSP), 3 Sub-Inspector of Police (SAR CPL), 23 Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (FPB), 24 Police Constable (SAR CPL), 20 Police Constable (Driver) PTO, and 7 Police Constable (Mechanic) PTO posts. The order was issued by Sikta Patnaik, Special Secretary to the government.The second orderA second order, G.O.Ms.No.84, issued by the Finance Department, dated July 3, 2026, sanctioning a further 1,424 posts. This allocation has 44 posts of Sub-Inspector and 1,380 posts of Constables.In both orders, TPRB has been directed to obtain essential details such as cadre-wise vacancy positions, roster points, and required qualifications from the concerned authorities, and to issue recruitment notifications and schedules without delay. The government has also clarified that provisions relating to the recruitment agency, wherever specified in special rules, may be suitably amended by the administrative department as necessary.
