The US response came after three tankers were hit by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz.“U.S. Central Command forces have begun launching a series of powerful strikes against Iran to impose heavy costs for targeting and attacking commercial shipping crewed by innocent civilians in an international waterway. The U.S. strikes are in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels that were transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s demonstrated aggression was unwarranted, dangerous, and a clear violation of the ceasefire,” the US Central Command said in a post on X.US strikes IranA US official told Reuters that strikes targeted Iranian air defense systems, coastal surveillance systems, surface-to-air missiles, anti-ship cruise missiles and drone launch sites.According to Iranian media reports, explosions were heard in the southern port city of Sirik, on Qeshm Island, and in Bandar Abbas.
