Perplexity says it plans to use Nvidias new CPU

New DelhiJul 21, 2026 06:54 AM IST Frozen v2' could run its Gemini AI models more efficiently by embedding parts of the model directly into hardware. (Express Image)Search giant Google, is reportedly making a new server chip that may bring some elements of its Gemini model directly into hardware. With this the company aims to make its AI models more efficient for users, according to a report in the Information. According to the report, the chip codenamed ‘Frozen v2’ is expected to address the limitations in AI computing capacity which has pushed Google Cloud to refrain from deals with outside customers. The company reportedly plans to deploy the chip as soon as 2028. However, engineers are still finalising its design, and the amount of information that is likely to be hardwired. The chip is said to be about six to 10 times more efficient than Google’s latest custom AI chips based on AI tokens served per unit of power. “Our teams are constantly researching and experimenting with new innovations… By co-designing our hardware and software from the ground up, we ensure our systems are integrated and highly optimized,” a Google Cloud spokesperson said. The report says the Frozen project is intended to create a separate family of Google-designed AI chips alongside the company’s Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), rather than replace them. Google’s reported effort comes at a time when AI infrastructure spending continues to reshape the semiconductor industry. Investor push around AI chips has driven sharp gains in chip stocks this year, although analysts have also warned that expectations for AI-related demand remain exceptionally high and companies may face increasing pressure to justify their massive investments in AI hardware. It needs to be noted that Google has been expanding its portfolio of custom AI hardware in recent years through its TPUs, which power both its internal AI workloads and Google Cloud services. According to the report, the proposed Frozen chips would complement, rather than replace, the company’s TPUs by handling specific AI inference tasks more efficiently.

His mother, Zeenat Hussain, and his sisters, Nikhat Khan and Farhat Khan Dutta—who is married to Aamir’s former wife Reena Dutta’s brother, Rajeev Dutta—are all likely to have apartments in the same building. Another apartment is reportedly being planned for his former wife Kiran Rao and their son Azad. The Free Press Journal report further claims that Aamir has already paid over Rs 100 crore to acquire the additional apartment blocks required for the project. Temporary move until redevelopment is complete Until the redevelopment is completed, Aamir has shifted to a temporary residence nearby. He has reportedly rented four apartments in Wilnomona Apartments on Nargis Dutt Road in Pali Hill, where he currently lives with his mother, his sisters, his sons Junaid and Azad, as well as Gauri Spratt and Quinn. Once the redevelopment is complete, the family is expected to move into what could become one of the most unique celebrity residences in Mumbai—a sprawling sky villa designed to keep the entire Khan family together. The ceremony marked Aamir’s third marriage after his previous marriages to Reena Dutta and filmmaker Kiran Rao.
Perplexity says Nvidia's Vera CPU delivered significantly faster performance for AI agent tasks than traditional processors. (Image: Reuters)AI startup Perplexity on Tuesday confirmed it plans to use Nvidia’s new central processing units, as the chip giant works to broaden its market and take on entrenched players such as Intel and Advanced Micro Devices. Nvidia has said it expects to generate $20 billion in sales from its “Vera” CPU, a more generic computing chip than its AI-specific offerings, by the end of this fiscal year. The Vera chips are part of Nvidia’s efforts to diversify sales as artificial intelligence companies such as OpenAI and DeepSeek make their own AI chips.Nvidia is entering a crowded market for CPUs long dominated by Intel and AMD, who supply CPUs for everything from laptops to web servers. But many of those chips were designed before the rise of what are known as AI “agents” that can carry out complex tasks on their own after receiving instructions from their human users. Unlike human users of CPUs, who take breaks between tasks, AI agents do not. Perplexity Vice President for Computer Enterprise and Infrastructure Nate Kupp said Nvidia’s CPU carried out AI agent coding tasks about 1.5 times faster than traditional CPUs. “Vera really stood out to us as just like a dead-on fit for a lot of the core workloads that we have,” Kupp said in an interview. Perplexity declined to disclose how many Nvidia CPUs it plans to buy. Nvidia has previously disclosed that OpenAI, Anthropic and Oracle plan to use its CPUs.
