New bus service launched to Palakondaraya temple for Sravanam month

Srinivasa Reddy flagging off a free bus service to Lakshmi Palakondaraya Swamy temple in Kadapa on Saturday. | “There are no bus services available on this remote route and hence this free bus service is launched, keeping in view the hordes of devotees travelling to this temple,” Mr. Reddy said.The bus, which will ply thrice a day between the Kadapa old bus stand and the temple, will be operational for the month of Sravanam.A large number of devotees from the city and the neighbouring villages, especially women and senior citizens, make a beeline to this hill shrine in the month of Sravanam. Two persons died of electrocution and another was injured when a newly built iron temple chariot that they were moving came into contact with an overhead electric wire at Nannai village in Kunnam taluk in Perambalur district on Thursday (August 13, 2026) night. The police have identified the deceased as P. Annadurai (43) and G. Paramasivam (42), both from Nannai village. The injured person K. Rasu (50) was admitted to the Perambalur Government Hospital. Police sources said the incident occurred at around 8.30 p.m. when the three persons were moving the newly built chariot of the Ayyanar temple at Nannai village onto the temple premises.The top portion of the chariot came into contact with an overhead electric wire as the three persons were moving it into the temple compound. The three suffered electric shock, and Annadurai and Paramasivam died on the spot. Rasu sustained an injury and was rushed to the government hospital for treatment. The Mylapore Kapaleeswarar Temple administration on Saturday received a cheque for ₹8.77 crore towards rental arrears from Amrutanjan, which had taken 14.910 ground of land on lease from the temple.The lease for the property on Luz Church Road began in 1901 for a period of 99 years. After the temple won a legal battle to fix fair rent, the arrears were handed over to P. Vijayakumar Reddy, chairman, board of trustees of the temple.A 10% of the amount was reduced as TDS by the company. Efforts will be taken to get the amount back, a release said.
