World news updates: UAE condemns Iranian attacks on two oil tankers in Strait of Hormuz
(Photo: AP)The United Arab Emirates has strongly criticised Iran after two ships belonging to Abu Dhabi’s national oil company were attacked while passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attacks broke international rules, pointing to a United Nations Security Council resolution that protects free movement of ships through the waterway. According to the ministry, stopping trade ships from passing, or using the strait to pressure or threaten other countries, amounts to piracy carried out by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps.Story continues below this ad The UAE urged Iran to stop these attacks at once and to stick fully to the current ceasefire. It warned that such actions put the whole region’s peace and safety at risk. The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), which owns the two vessels, confirmed that nobody was hurt in the incident and that everything is now back under control. This comes amid rising tension in the Gulf, with the narrow Strait of Hormuz remaining a key route for global oil shipments
