The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), a Mumbai-based organisation working for the rights of IT employees, has sent a written complaint to Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya regarding the “prolonged and unexplained delay” in onboarding more than 200 students and young engineers selected by Wipro Limited under its Elite Hiring 2025 process.Harpreet Singh Saluja, president of NITES and an advocate of the Bombay High Court, stated in the letter that the affected students and young engineers participated in Wipro’s campus recruitment process on February 1, 2025, and cleared subsequent rounds in the same month. Following their interviews, they received their offer letters on July 22, 2025, and ‘Letters of Intent’ in August 2025.“In December 2025, they reconfirmed their interest through Wipro’s official survey,” Mr. Saluja said, adding that despite completing every requirement communicated by Wipro, these students and young engineers have still not received a definite onboarding or joining date. “For several months, the affected students and young engineers have repeatedly approached Wipro HR, onboarding helpdesks and other designated channels but state that they have received no substantive response,” the letter read.Wipro’s responseA Wipro spokesperson told The Hindu that Wipro remains committed to onboarding the freshers, in line with its business requirements. “We will continue to keep candidates informed on further updates,” the spokesperson added.Mr. Saluja said educational institutions and Training and Placement Officers of the students also attempted to obtain clarification from Wipro’s campus relationship personnel, without satisfactory resolution. “The consequences are serious. These are young people at the beginning of their professional careers who planned their careers and financial commitments around the employment opportunity offered by Wipro. Many state that they declined or did not pursue other employment opportunities while awaiting onboarding. They and their families have consequently faced continuing financial uncertainty and burdens relating to education, accommodation, daily expenses and family responsibilities. The prolonged uncertainty has also caused considerable anxiety, frustration and emotional distress and has prevented students from taking informed decisions regarding alternative employment and further education,” the letter said.Mr. Saluja urged the Minister to treat the complaint as urgent and initiate appropriate action at the earliest.(Inputs from Mini Tejaswi) Published - August 15, 2026 07:56 pm IST
