Karnataka State Human Rights Commission team visits Hanur to probe death of three suspected poachers

A team of officials from the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Wednesday (August 19) visited Hanur to probe the death of three suspected poachers and the alleged attack on forest watch rooms in the forest area. The team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Ashwath Narayana, has been tasked with conducting a detailed inquiry and submitting a report following the suo motu case registered by the SHRC.The investigation will focus on the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the three suspected poachers, the alleged attack on forest department watch rooms and any possible lapses on the part of forest officials or other government authorities. The SHRC team is also expected to examine the sequence of events, gather statements from officials and local residents, and scrutinise available records and other evidence connected with the incident. Another key aspect of the inquiry will be to assess whether the victims’ families are entitled to compensation and, if so, recommend appropriate relief to the government. The team will submit its findings to the SHRC after completing the investigation.
