Child rights panel orders probe into pregnancy of minor girl at tribal welfare school in Andhra Pradesh


The Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) has ordered a thorough inquiry into the pregnancy of a Class IX girl at a Tribal Welfare Residential School in Polavaram district. The girl, who was found to be two months pregnant, is undergoing treatment at a hospital. Following a report published in The Hindu, the APSCPCR directed the officials concerned to ensure the girl’s safety and take action against those responsible. “A detailed inquiry has been ordered into the sexual abuse of the inmate. The Commission will visit the institute soon,” Mr. Gandhi Babu said on Tuesday. Mr. Gandhi Babu spoke to officials of the Women Development and Child Welfare Department, Tribal Welfare Department and Rampachodavaram ITDA and enquired about the health condition of the victim.
