Migrant worker couple found dead in pond

A migrant worker couple was found dead in a pond inside a tea plantation at Pooppara, under the Santhanpara police station limits, on Monday. According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Madhya Pradesh residents Lahan Sing Markam, 30, and his wife Sunitha Markam, 30. Local residents had seen the couple heading toward their rented home on Sunday evening. The woman’s body was discovered in the pond around noon on Monday. Alerted by local residents, the police arrived at the scene, drained the pond, and recovered the man’s body. Police suspect that one of them accidentally fell into the pond, and the other drowned while attempting a rescue. The couple had recently arrived in Pooppara in search of work and were living in a rented house in the plantation valley. The bodies have been shifted to the Idukki Government Medical College for post-mortem examinations.
