A viral video from Delhi has captured the harsh reality of the capital’s ongoing heatwave after a tray of ladoos began melting in the extreme temperature. Delhi’s scorching heatwave melts sweets, sparks viral reactions online(Instagram/@ hey.chan04)India continues to battle intense heatwave conditions, with temperatures soaring above 45°C in several regions, including parts of Rajasthan, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Alongside extreme temperatures, residents in many cities are also dealing with severe humidity, dehydration concerns and rising heat stress.Amid the blistering summer conditions in the national capital, a video showing ladoos melting in the heat has gone viral on social media. The clip, shared by a woman online, captured a tray of sweets gradually losing shape under the harsh temperature. As the ladoos softened and began sticking together, the woman added a humorous caption in Hindi: “Inki abh barfi banegi."The light-hearted remark quickly resonated with viewers online, with many seeing it as a relatable snapshot of Delhi’s punishing summer. The video spread rapidly across social media platforms as users reacted to the unusual sight of traditional sweets melting in the heat.Viral clip reflects Delhi’s extreme summerIn the now-viral video, the ladoos appeared unable to retain their round shape as the heat intensified. Their texture visibly changed, turning soft and sticky while the tray itself became difficult to handle. The clip struck a chord with many viewers because it reflected the harsh realities of daily life during the ongoing heatwave. Delhi has been recording extremely high temperatures in recent weeks, and the visual of melting sweets became an unexpected symbol of the city’s struggle with the weather.Usually associated with celebrations and festive occasions, the ladoos in the video transformed into a sticky mass within minutes of exposure to the heat. For many social media users, the moment highlighted just how relentless the summer conditions have become.Heatwave conditions continue across north IndiaThe viral moment also came at a time when several northern states continue to experience severe weather conditions. Heatwave alerts have remained in place in multiple regions as authorities urge people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and stay hydrated.Residents in Delhi and nearby areas have already been coping with frequent complaints related to power cuts, water shortages and uncomfortable humidity levels. The intense weather has disrupted normal routines for many families across the region.Against this backdrop, the melting ladoos video added humour to an otherwise exhausting summer season. While many viewers reacted with amusement, others pointed out that the clip also underlined the growing discomfort caused by extreme temperatures.Social media reacts to melting ladoosThe video generated several quirky reactions online, with users comparing the sweets’ condition to the experience of stepping outdoors during peak afternoon heat. Many described the clip as one of the most relatable representations of Delhi’s summer this year.A user wrote, “Ladoo ❌ barfi ❌ Halwa ✅”Another user commented, “Halwaa baan Gaya hai.”“My dad had some bananas he bought last night they were just above raw and by the time he came home in the afternoon after travelling they were almost overripe in 17 hours of journey. Imagine how hot it is for that to happen,” the third user commented. For others, the video served as a reminder of how heatwaves affect even the smallest aspects of everyday life. From food storage issues to difficulty travelling outdoors during daytime hours, the impact of soaring temperatures is being felt widely across cities in north India.“This is what happens when you buy laddu from Barfivala,” the fourth wrote.“Oh wow DIY barfi,” the fifth joked.About the AuthorAnjali ThakurAnjali Thakur is a Senior Assistant Editor with Mint, reporting on trending news, entertainment and health, with a focus on stories driving

After studying at IIT Delhi and Guru Nanak Dev University, Sandhu moved to the United States for his PhD. He later became an important figure in global microelectronics researchIIT Delhi alumnus Gurtej Sandhu becomes one of America’s top inventors.(X)India has produced many talented technology experts, but several of them achieved their biggest successes abroad. One such name now gaining attention online is Gurtej Sandhu, an Indian-origin engineer from Amritsar who studied at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Delhi and later became the seventh most prolific inventor in US history.A viral post on X recently revived the debate around brain drain. The post said, “India trains the engineer and America files the patents. We export the inventor and we import the chip.” Many users shared Sandhu’s journey as an example of how Indian talent often finds better research and innovation opportunities outside the country.Who is Gurtej Sandhu?Sandhu, who completed his MTech from IIT Delhi in 1985, is currently Senior Fellow and Vice President at Micron Technology. He has received 1,382 US patents during his career - more than Thomas Edison, who held 1,093 patents. His research in semiconductors, chip manufacturing and atomic layer deposition has helped make electronic devices smaller, faster and more efficient. After studying at IIT Delhi and Guru Nanak Dev University, Sandhu moved to the United States for his PhD. He later became an important figure in global microelectronics research. For the past 35 years, he has worked with Micron Technology and currently leads the company’s Si-to-Package research and development roadmap from Boise, Idaho. What are his major contributions? His work in silicon CMOS technology and memory scaling for DRAM and NAND systems has contributed to advancements in cloud computing, smartphones, cameras and data storage technology. In 2018, he was honoured with the prestigious IEEE Andrew S Grove Award for his contributions.Reacting to his achievement, Guru Nanak Dev University vice-chancellor Karamjeet Singh described it as “a moment of unparalleled pride” for both the university and the country.“Gurtej’s journey from our campus to global acclaim shows how dedication and curiosity can reshape the world. His success is an inspiration for our students and faculty alike,” he said. How did social media users react? The online discussion around Sandhu also triggered a wider debate about innovation and retaining talent in India. Several social media users said the country needs stronger research facilities and better support systems to stop talented professionals from moving overseas. One user wrote, “He couldn’t possibly had done those inventions in India. You need labs and support for this.”Another commented, “Smart people are the most valuable investment a country can make. Gurtej Sandhu generated thousands of patents. That is not one person succeeding. That is knowledge creating more knowledge. We grew the mango tree. Someone else opened the juice factory.”A third user said, “Have met him in a conference at Las Vegas in 2019, though I have filed multiple US patents myself but I must say he is a very humble and approachable person considering his achievements and depth of knowledge in our domain. Lot of reformation needed in India to breed innovation!”About the AuthorKanishka SinghariaKanishka Singharia is a Senior Content Producer at Mint with a passion for news, trends, and the stories shaping the digital world.
